Since Karissa Hunter was a young girl of four, she dreamed about becoming an artist. Born in Washington State, she was constantly carrying around a sketchbook with colored pencils drawing the natural beauty all around her. She studied fine art at Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Illustration and Sculpture.
Directly after graduating, she began a freelance career as a children's book illustrator doing many small projects for independent authors and self published works. A year after graduating from the university and moving back to Washington, she was encouraged by her husband to apply for a teaching position at a local art store to teach watercolor and drawing.
She now teaches from her farm studio and hosts a plein air group of local artists. She is a dedicated outdoor painter who enjoys sharing her love and insights as she paints with watercolor, casein, gouache, acrylic and teaching the fundamentals of drawing in graphite and charcoal.
